My reason for wanting to read this book is this: great concept! I love out of the box thinking stories with what if's and science fiction mixed in. The love story is just a bonus. It seems slightly stalker'ish to some, unless you've read/watch something that involved a person going into another's mind/head, then it's not so creepy.

Overall, I'm tinkling this will be interesting to read. I'm excited to get my hands on this novel when it comes out!

Book Blogger Hop (#1): BEA Edition

The Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Jennifer from Crazy for Books. And this is my first time doing this because of the question being asked. I figured this was a good way to get connected and see who is going this year!

Q: Are you attending the Book Blogger Convention (aka Bea Bloggers) and/or Book Expo America in New York City in June? If not, will you participate in the online event called Armchair BEA?

I'm in fact going to BEA, just not the BB Convention (too expensive, broke college student). This will be my first year attending and so happy to go! When all that drama hit earlier this month, I thought my head was going to explode from the PR guy of BEA and that lousy mass email. But all was resolved, so I'm forgiving them once for this.

Anyway... I'll be thrilled to attend for many reasons, one meeting face to face with other like-minded YA bloggers. I've got friends and family, but none that blog about it, so it will be awesome to meet some of you! Another reason: I <3 NYC! I've been going there since I was about eight years old. I'm now 25. So it'll be like visiting an old friend that I've shared many adventures with. I also know most of the city like the back of my hand, so I don't get lost easily. Another great reason: BOOKS! I've been a book'aholic since I was two. I still have all 50 Bernstein Bears books (i.e. - saving for my future kids lol). I've always loved to read, so I hope I don't go all gapping mouth dropping shocked by the overwhelming display of love for books. I've sort of done it the first time I went to the palisades to the B&N store haha same reaction to that scene from "Buffy" and the Sunnydale College library back in 1999.

Tune in Tuesday (#12)

A weekly meme by Ginger of GReads! In the meme I'll talk about music and showcase it here each week. And this week, I'm going to talk about... songs that were on my playlist at 16.

So about nine years ago (this april), certain music was on the air waves in 2003. Pop was still good, punk-pop was at an all time high, and TRL was the "it" thing to watch on tv after school. And not just then but till I graduated in 2005, certain bands/artists were constantly on my radar. Now a few of these I shake my head at and ask "why?", while others were just plain awesome, which is how I've decided to call this "Dear Sixteen Year Old Me...", let's get the ball rolling with the first song.

"Hands Down" by Dashboard Confessional
This is my all time favorite song by this band and one of my top 50 favorite songs too. One big reason is was used for the definitive scene of the pilot episode for "One Tree Hill". Beyond that it's such an amazing song. The way it begins and then kick starts into an awesome chorus with really great lyrics. Plus if you've never seen this music video, you may want to check it out just for the cool effects that were used circa 2002.

"Swing, Swing" by The All-American Rejects
The first song that put this band on the map. I remember thinking these guys will be around for awhile. Ironically it's a great song about a break-up or being broken hearted long after a break-up. Gotta hand it to The All-American Rejects for creating a catchy tune while still symbolizing good rock music.

"Dead On Arrival" by Fall Out Boy
I was listening to the band long before "Under the Corktree" came out. This is the bands first single off their "Take This to Your Grave" album, which is the 2nd studio album as well. I first spotted this exact video on FUSE one day and couldn't peel my eyes away from the screen. I was captivated by the energy and fun fact they brought to the stage. Back then in circa 2002, they were the underground sensation in Chicago. Today everyone knows who they are when it comes to music (even my parents due to rolling stone).

"Last Train Home" by LOSTPROPHETS
I just remember hearing this on the radio one day and fell in love it completely. It also was blowing up the air waves left and right on my local rock radio stations too. What was great about this song was that feeling it built up inside you as it reached the chorus and the second verse. It made you wish that your life would be like a music video and just cool in that sense.

"Fatlip" by Sum 41
The great thing about this band, they were just about rocking out and having fun. It was the skater image that was seen a lot with punk-rock bands around this time, especially those that ended up on Warped Tour.

"The Rock Show" by Blink 182
I would have used "What's My Age Again", but then I remembered the guys are butt naked running down sunset blvd for the video lol so didn't feel that was too appropriate for here. Anyway, this song is great in general. First off: the music video. Hands down funny, crazy, and totally Blink 182. Second: how many rock stars wear glasses and pull it off in a video!?!? Not many, but Mark did lol. Third: the lyrics are just a reminded of how great being young was for anyone. And lastly, those lyrics you kind of have to laugh at because whenever there is loud music and you go to a concert, no one understands anything being said!

"What I Want" by Autopilot Off
I saved this for last for a few reasons. The first: One of my close friend's brother personally knew the band. Second? Still sad that they never made it big. They had such talent and the entire album is great. It's also one of my favorite albums from high school and holds a lot of memories too.

Follow Friday (#5)

Follow Me Friday is a fun book meme hosted by the fabulous book blogs of Parajunkee & Allison Can Read. Each week a new question is asked and it's a lot of fun! Let's see what the question is this week...

Q: The New Year is here — and everyone wants to know your New Years Blogging Resolution! What are you going to try to revise, revamp and redo for 2012 on your blog?

So I've been blogging, not this blog but other blogs, since I was about 18 (I'm now 24!). Also I'm a tech geek girl as well, so I understand a lot of the lingo. Anyway, this is was my first year attempting blogging about books. I've learned a lot and it took me about two and half months to really grasp how to handle writing up book reviews and more.

So what do I plan to change for 2012? My time management, organization skills, and reading more. I received an eReader this Christmas (thank you mom & dad!) and so far it's helped me read more already. So far underway with at least one resolution before sunday! haha

I'm also looking to invest maybe in a basic planner or something like that to help with the schedule I have set for this blog. I've got some interesting books to read not only for D.A.C. but also in general that I've gotten over the months and what I've got on my eReader as well.

And lastly, time management. I'm horrible at mostly because I've got ADD and it really cuts into everything. I'm a notorious procrastinator, so I'm hoping to not let it get in the way with read for 2012. But I've got a feeling with the books I WANT read, it'll make it easier as well :)

Anyway... that's my blog resolutions, not the ones I've got set out in general, but yeah that's what I've got.

So I'll be busy Saturday/Sunday with New Years, but I'll be adding my IMM (it's being worked on and scheduled to post sunday). So in till then, I'm wishing everyone...

Tune in Tuesday (#11)

A weekly meme by Ginger of GReads! In the meme I'll talk about music and showcase it here each week. And this week, I'm going to talk about... cover songs!

Now this isn't just any set of songs that I've chosen, it's actually songs that almost everyone knows (depending on if you've been listening to the radio the last 5-10 years) have been done by bands that are consider "in" with the kids these days. These are those songs, the kind that you've heard plenty of times on the radio that you can sing along, out loud, and care free.

So to start off, I'd like to introduce a lovely cover version of a song from the '90s that was pretty popular by a band called Third Eye Blind:

"Jumper" (Cover) by Bedlight for Blue Eyes

There is something about this cover that makes you appreciate a band that doesn't take away that original melody all the while putting their spin with the vocals and guitar on it.

"More than a Feeling" (Cover) by Hit the Lights

This song may sound a slight different than the original, but I do have to admit that they kept the original melody of the song. This is a pet peeve of mine, when a band does a cover and the melody of what made the original work is no where to be found. But Hit the Lights made sure to keep it there.

"I Melt With You" (Cover) by Sugarcult

One of the great things about this song is the lead vocalist even tries to capture the way Modern English's singer did the song. They added a little more uptempo side to rock than alternative, but none the less it's a really good cover that captures that '80s vibe.

"Ice Box" (Cover) by There for Tomorrow

This song is more pop/r&b than rock, but still it is pretty amazing how a pop-punk rock band can capture the essences of a song like this. From the beginning of the beat, to the way it flows, it sounds similar to the original Omarion did a few years back. And then when the song jumps into the second verse, it picks up with the drums and a strum off the guitar that lets you know it's a little more rock sounding by the second chorus, but still this is one of those songs that I would recommend to those that love rock music and love the original song.

Tune in Tuesday: Retro Edition (#10)

A weekly meme by Ginger of GReads! In the meme I'll talk about music and showcase it here each week.

This version of the meme hasn't been done yet, but since I'm a HUGE fan of classic songs from almost every genre, I felt this was more fitting. I will also do a special edition of a Christmas one in a few weeks with a special version of the meme logo!

Anyway, hope this version catches on to inspire those that like music from any decade before the 1980's. That in itself, I will try to do at some point! Anyway... let's get this show on the road

I'm a HUGE fan of classic rock, which also calling it "classic" once in the past in front of my dad made him feel old haha so since then I try to be careful not to say it. But calling it classic doesn't me old. It can me in lingo terms: the best thing since sliced bread and always will be!

These bands are highly influential on me since I was in diapers. There are more, probably about 20 other musicians, bands, etc... from 1965-1990 that my fathers has played around the house that I still hear today. I even hear the Beatles more than three times a week after midnight blaring outside on the front patio and the kitchen while my father sits out there haha but still the best of the best still lives on in my house.

I think it has to largely do with that he saw most of the music, minus Janis Joplin and Jimmy Hendrix, live on stage one time or another. He has even met John Lennon while working at the Dakota Hotel at the end of the 70's and the early 80's.

Now for myself, I will play the greatest rockers of all time when I'm driving or just lounging around. I listen to a local radio station that has been around since the late 1960's and all they do is play music from 1965-1990/1991. You hear everything from "Cream", "Nirvana", "Pink Floyd", "The Beatles", and everything else considered good music of the rock genre.

Also my pride for this era of music is sort of borderline addictive haha. The reason I say that: I have a collection or rock vintage looking band shirts pilling up in my bedroom. I've got about four beatles shirts, a hendrix, two pink floyd, and a few other well known artist. Not to mention my vintage taste for '70s style clothing (long live floppy hats and bells!), just that this genre is everything that is me and probably won't ever disappear from my life.

I guess, I bleed not only O negative blood, but rock and roll is surging through my veins spinning the 60's and 70's!

Follow Friday (#4)

Follow Me Friday is a fun book meme hosted by the fabulous Parajunkee & Allison Can Read. Each week a new question is asked and it's a lot of fun! And this week's edition is a little interesting . . . let's check it out!

Q: What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don’t like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!

Hmm . . . tricky question, many answers. But as the saying goes: there can only be one! haha points to anyone who got that quote! Just kidding about only having one . . . so here goes nothing!

Pet peeves about books? I think I don't like it when the cover has nothing to do with the book. It's very misleading, because I'm an aesthetically (i.e. - visual) person. So the cover is also a key factor in getting me to read a book. The reason for this is I'm an artistic person, so the first thing we artisty people notice is how everything is as a whole. If something is off, it won't sit well. I'm about how the colors flow, the shapes, the sound imagery in the title, etc . . . covers are my major selling point, besides a great plot. Think of it like marketing 101 at a PR firm: you have to be able to sell it to the group it's aimed at or they won't buy it.

My second pet peeve? I can't stand it when not even one back story is added to the story! If there isn't one I kind of feel let down. But if the story is amazing, I can let it slide just once and hope a mini story in between the next sequel will fill in some blanks or a prequel back story is good too! I'm all for those!!!

And my final P.P.? Authors that have been around for years, that are jumping on the YA bandwagon and producing material that isn't even geared toward a YA audience; just slaps on an excerpt and cover that looks YA, but isn't a YA book. I feel like authors should immerse themselves in the culture a little if they want to write YA. A lot has changed even in the last five years when it comes to YA novels. Not only have the covers become amazing in graphic design, but the issues that this audience deals with is not so "childish" anymore. If it's like a "Sweet Valley" novel, it won't fly anymore. A good example for pop-culture for authors to look at is "Degrassi". Something about that show, no matter what, always seems to stay popular with each and every generation that grows up watching it. They always recycle the same plot lines, but they change up some of the lingo, the clothing, the music, and add on some stuff to the original ideas. It's about keeping it classic but making it modern at the exact same time.

I don't know what it is about this show, but they have done some amazing covers to some VERY well songs and some that people might not know unless they attend broadway plays, or just see plays in general. But there have been some awesome covers this season! So many fun songs and many that are very emotional too. I know a lot of people said the show was getting darker in tone, but it's really helped developed the characters into something more, which makes it a very amazing show to watch now.

Tune in Tuesday: Soundtrack Edition (#8)

I started watching the show about two months after it began, but I can say that it's a pretty good show so far. I'm loving Rachel Bilson's character Zooey Hart, who is this born and bread NYC girl, that went to Med School to become a cardiovasic surgeon (i.e. - a heart surgeon, think Christina from Grey's, but who has a heart and cares about people). Basically in a nutshell, things get interesting when she leaves it all behind and moves to small town Blue Bell, Alabama.

Tune in Tuesday (#7)

And this week I'll be talking about a band named 'SafetySuit'. Let's start from the beginning… The first time I heard of SafetySuit was 2008. iTunes had done a promotional single of the song "What If" on the application main page and I had downloaded the free song, never really thinking about it, but I did listen to it and it was good. I didn't forget it, but it did "move" me in a way that I know a band will be the next big thing kind of feeling...

Later on towards the fall of 2009, I was searching Youtube for fanvids of some of my favorite couples of movies and tv shows. Some had done an Alice/Hatter video and had a song by this band. I never heard of the band before that day.

From there I fell in love with the song, 'Anywhere But Here', it was amazing! I had to see other versions of this couple and the song. It swept me away with the sincerity of the voice and the eloquence of the poetry from the lyrics. I was also wrapped up in the SyFy movie "Alice" so any fan video of the show was on my radar.

Anyway, then I started looking for other videos of favorite shows that had this band. Then I found a fan made video of one of my all time favorite characters.

There was this underground love for the band with the use of the fan videos that besides 'Trading Yesterday' and 'Thriving Ivory', it was the main band to use for expressing the mood for the video.

Tune in Tuesday: '90s Edition! (#6)

A weekly meme by Ginger of GReads!In the meme I'll talk about music and showcase it here each week. And this week it'll be about music I love from the decade of the '90s! Oh this will be such a special treat for everyone!

1) "The Impression That I Get" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

Okay the first time I heard this song was on the local rock radio station that my dad was playing. Then the next time I heard it being played anywhere else was the movie "Clueless", which show cased the band playing on stage at the dance club. I had a cousin that passed away that was a big fan of the band. I think that's one reason why I still do sometimes play them; beside that I do enjoy the music. But it's such a fun ska beat and the lyrics are just silly but also have some meaning. Then again it's ska of the 90's haha.

2) "Sunday Morning" by No Doubt

One of my all time favorite songs off of their 'Tragic Kingdom' album. I first heard the song 'Spiderwebs' and was just a kid, but thought 'hmm I like the sound of this and really want to know who this is...' ever since then No Doubt has been one of my favorite bands from the '90s. From Gwen's style and voice to the energy the band brings, it's kind of hard not to listen to the songs they created on the album. Plus the band was more rock oriented back then what they are today, which is pop. I always felt they shouldn't have drifted that far from their roots because of what they could create, but sometimes you have to go with the tides in the music industry. But they are starting to come back to the rock element from what I'm gathering with new music.

3) "Wonderwall" by Oasis

So this was the 'It' song of the mid-90s. I heard it just as much as I heard 'Ironic' by Alanis. I went to camp and in 1996 this song was everywhere. But it's such a great cover of Adam's song. This song gives that '90s vibe and makes you feel like you wanna wear hemp jewelry, watch some classic MTV (before they got rid of the music videos) and slip on a comfy original style flannel shirt of the '90s.

4) "Big Me" by Foo Fighters

This was the first song i ever heard by the Foo Fighters and it was their first hit. It came out in 1995 and  I remember watching the VMA's in 1996; seeing them win awards and proving they could do it. I may have only been about eight at the time, but I knew they were something special. My father had a huge influence on my taste in music, especially during the '90s. You wouldn't think someone in their late 50's would but he did. He introduced me to this band, Nirvana, and a few others.

5) "Fly" by Sugar Ray

You know how some parents are influenced by hearing new music their kids listen too? Not me, it's the other way around in my household haha. I heard these guys through MTV and my local rock radio station, also because my dad would keep it on if this song came on. I know weird, right? Anyway, I remember being in the 4th grade when this came out and it was weird when they said the line: "My momma got breasts or so..." always made me feel weirded out because it was so random and for Mark to be talking about his mom's boobs was even weirded lol but none the less the song was good and the music video, well, it kept true to the oddness of the lyrics.

Well if you can't tell, I'm currently reading, Ghost Huntress: The Awakening by Marley Gibson. I flew through the first three chapters quickly. I love this book so much that when I'm finished with it this is going to be lent to my long time BFF who ❤'s shows like "Ghost Hunters" and "Paranormal State". FYI: She is always telling me, ❝You should get Ghost Hunters to come to your house! It's so old and you have ghosts here!❞, lol my house was built in 1801 and half of it is still has the original wood and construction that was handcrafted over 200 years ago. It gets a little creepy late at night, but that's one of the reasons why I'm loving this book. I can't wait till I do a review for it on here!

Alrighty, if you haven't seen this show you are clearly missing out on something amazing! It's about a woman in her early 30's who has reached rock bottom: no job, living at home with her parents, and feels like giving up on every getting her dreams to become a reality. Till that is she meets a guy named Dr. Tom. He gives her a card and suddenly she goes through an interesting type of therapy: she gets to go back in time and relieve everything and FIX IT the way she wants it to be instead! But there is a catch: she is also to learn something too to help her grow and become wiser. And below is the promo trailer for the pilot episode. This can help maybe let you know what it's about a little better.

It originally aired on the CBC and then SoapNet took over and aired it on their network. One of the main network companies wants to take it and make it more "american'. I say to hell with that idea haha, it's already amazing! From the quotes Dr. Tom uses in almost every episode, to the music of another generation, and the storylines, they should just get the copy rights to air the originals.

Time to shake it up a bit in regards to this meme. It's been hard to post since I've been busy with my class work at college and reviewing books, but that doesn't stop me to come back. Tune in Tuesday (#4): Halloween Soundtrack Edition!

A weekly meme by Ginger of GReads! In the meme I'll talk about music and showcase it here each week.

So being that Halloween is just around the corner, I'm going to pisr some songs that can be found in widely popular horror films. Either they were a theme, a song used to spice up the pace of the film, or were just flat out awesome. So let's get this ball rolling, shall we?

*FYI: I apologize if certain songs don't sit well with any of the readers. But most of these songs are going to be a little "edgy" so this is just a warning in case anything happens.*

1) "Pet Cemetery" by The Ramones

If anyone has ever seen Stephen Kings, Pet Cemetery, then you know how creepy that film can truly be. But I love how the punk-rock band took the elements of that film and fit it nicely into a song. Plus it's great for anyone who just wants a decent rock song for Halloween.

2) "Dawn of the Dead (Main Theme)"

Okay so every time since I was about 13. this theme always made me think of one word: Zombies! It was more creepy to listen to it at night because of the imagery that it provokes; especially if you've seen the movie. It has that classic 70's tempo of beats, but it adds that scary sounds that Romero was very smart when creating a "feeling" for his film.

3) "Halloween (Theme Song)"

How many remember hearing this and suddenly feeling really freaked out or excited when it came on the tv or a movie screen? I know that my own mother gets freaked out after hearing it for 5 seconds. This theme song invokes certain fear in people to the point that their own mind plays tricks on them. Ironically it was only a movie, but still none the less, it happens.

4) "House of a 1000 Corpses" by Rob Zombie

I can say this is one of many songs I believe may not be for everyone. It's mostly due to how the song starts out. It has stuff that kids shouldn't hear is all I'm saying. But this song is used from the movie of the same name that was also directed and written by Rob Zombie himself. If you don't like a lot of blood or really psychological crazy horror, then I advise to not see this movie. But this song would really work for anyone who does a haunted house for an older group of people. Kind of for those waiting on line because of the type of feeling it can invoke: fear.

5) "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" by Marilyn Manson

I would have posted the video, but then I remember that alone might give some people nightmares. This was back when he was doing extreme over the top scary stuff in such a way that it resembled something out of a horror movie. Anyway, this song was features on the remake of "House on Haunted Hill", during the scene of the limos driving up to the hospital. This song was also featured on an episode of "Dawson Creek" for a halloween'esque theme. It certainly adds a vibe of darkness to it, which Halloween does bring, so I thought it was fitting compared to some of the other songs out there.

This is one of those movies that have changed horror movies forever. It is the staple diet for any horror movie fanatic. Romero set the bar than any other film maker to the point that many directors try to live up to his standard of movie making. I remember seeing this movie when I was just a child. My father bought it on a DVD-Rom version for the computer back in 1998. I was only in the 6th grade, but this movie changed my life, for the better. It is the one movie I praise because it's more than just a horror/thriller flick. Romero was also about hidden meanings to his "Dead" films. Each one had a different message. This film's message was about the fear people had of certain things in the 1960's (i.e. - segregation and such).

I have to say this is one of my top five favorite horror films of all time! The 2004 remake doesn't even compare to how amazing this movie truly is! There was something about the way the music sounded to the scary scenes to the look that make-up artist Tom Savini did, that makes it a true classic. Romero took, not only the zombie genre, but the horror genre to new heights. I remember the first time i saw this movie. my father recorded it over Easter back in 2000. We all came home and it was on a vhs tape. I was so excited but kind of freaked out at the end. My reasons because it had gotten dark by the time i finished watching it and didn't turn on the lights in the room haha. The hidden meaning in this film was about consumerism. How people just kept on buying stuff and going to the mall. Hence why he choose for the survives to hide out in a mall. I could go on forever as to why I love this film, but I'll just say this: If you haven't seen this film, then you have no clue as to the magnitude that so many horror fanatics love about this film, including myself!

I was very much disappointed when they made that remake a few years back. They made those zombies crawl on walls, spew out something vial, and jump!? It was just something beyond what Romero created and a disgrace to the series. This is why I strongly promote zombie fans to watch this version. Not only is is actually a little scary, but it really makes you think too. His hidden meaning for "Day" was politically geared. How we became forgetful about certain things involving the military and such, but in a way saying how we treated out soldiers and such; more so our veterans he was pointing out. This film is a great one and should be at least watched by any horror fan once. A good reason why: the idea in how the scientist is trying to train a zombie how to communicate and learn things again, to humanize them a little. One of the more interesting arcs of the movie.

This movie either people love it or hate it. I loved it, but not as much as "Dawn of the Dead". This was the final chapter in the series before he went back and restarted it again in a new direction with "Diary". The movie had some very well known names in the film industry, including Dennis Hopper and John Leguizamo. I do love the behind the scenes stuff on this dvd, mostly because Aisa Argento talks about her father, Dario Argento, an original horror movie trendsetter in the horror genre. He did a lot of Italian based horror flicks, but a few that are very well known in America too. Anyway, the movie is a great one for those that have seen the first three in the series. Mostly because it wraps up the story in how it most likely would look like if zombies overrun the world, how the rich decided to deal with it, and how resourceful people became in fighting back to surviving out on the streets. It was interesting none the less, but this is one of his most gory films these days from the "Dead" series. I wouldn't recommend it to those that get spooked easily by blood and guts.

I loved this film. Some would disagree, but there was something about this movie that sparked that same feeling I got seeing "Night of the Living Dead". This movie is something Romero decided to do, just go back to the beginning but more as a story being told from the characters in the film. One of the smartest things he did. I do love how realistic the emotions seem to be in how basic the needs go with them in such a crisis of this situation in the modern era. I did enjoy seeing how they started to not enjoy having no cell phones or internet working, just one of the many things that added some surrealism to the movie. I just got this on DVD from Swap A DVD (kind of like Paperback Swap, but for DVD's) and I've seen this movie many times, but it was something I had to own as well. It is currently these days being shown on AMC's "Fear Fest" (you can probably go to AMCTV.com or see if it's on from October 16th-31st). This is just one of those movies that stays very true to the zombie genre, but is more about the experience the characters have that I loved!
