For those that do not know about the show, it's time you found out the magic behind what is the culture phenomena that is so big that universities across the globe teach pop culture and psychology classes on the show.
Buffy Summers is just 15 years old, a popular girl, a cheerleader, has friends, goes to the mall, and talks about boys, but also dates them too. Till one day she is told about her destiny to fight vampires, which she kind of reaches like any valley girl of the 90's, "huh?". From there, after a few attempts, she finally accepts her fate, which causes her to get into trouble. It was so much trouble, but the saving the world kind, that she got expelled. Well she was saving the gym from students from a pack of vampires, which she lit them on fire and proceed to burn down the entire gym on her high school campus. Basically in the end her parents got divorced, her mom had custody and they moved to small town Sunnydale. There she can't escape her destiny, but along the way she at least gets to have friends named Xander and Willow, with her trusted Watcher named Giles.
The first season to a lot of people wasn't what catapulted it into the show that it turned out to be... that didn't happen till season two. BUT, this season set the ground work for some amazing story lines and creature features, all on a low budget too.
A one of my favorite episodes is "Never Kill A Boy On A First Date", where she tries to be a normal sophomore in high school, trying to date a cute boy, yet her slayer duties keep on coming in the way. And there are two famous lines that many fans know by heart from this episode that all have comedy attached to it during the scenes:
- "Next time I'll wear my button that says 'I'm a Slayer, Ask Me How?"
- "If the apocalypse comes, beep me."
And the ironic part? The creator of the show, Joss Whedon, actually talks like that in real life. This is why it's so interesting to watch. The verbal one liners or the witty banter or even the funny british humor has played a huge key factor since day one of it's airing. Over all this is just a fantastic show!

It all sounds like horror-action mayhem, but Buffy took on its plotlines with amazing depth, intelligence, and humor. And oh, man, the love story! Buffy and Angel's tragic relationship is one of the most heartbreaking you'll ever find. Buffy's final dilemma finds her having to save the world at Angel's expense, and Gellar (who deserves a passel of Emmys for her work) is phenomenal at telegraphing Buffy's swirling conflicts between love and duty. Ahhh my favorite season of the show! Not to sound bias, but this season had some of the BEST story lines to date for the series. It had such a huge arc, that if you've never seen it, then I can not spoil this for you! I can say that my favorite two episodes of all time are the two-part ones: 'Surprise' and 'Innocence'. One episode involves Buffy's 17th birthday and the other involves her life turning up side down and never being the same again. It was such an intensely writing story line that even after 13 years I'm still floored.
